Chaplin’s World and the Charlie Chaplin Museum Fondation will take you on an immersive journey to the heart of the iconic film “The Kid” and Chaplin’s childhood, a period of his life marked by poverty which had such a fundamental impact on his life.

Transported back to the 1900s amidst the magic lanterns, visitors will discover the incredible influence of the filmmaker’s music hall performing mother, the Tramp’s childish traits, and the incredibly close bond between the Tramp and the Kid, played by Jackie Coogan – cinema’s first child star. Are you ready to uncover the film’s secrets?
Supported by the Charlie Chaplin Museum Foundation, “The Kid: The Exhibition” is an exhibition devised by Chaplin’s World creator Yves Durand.
The exhibition focuses on four main themes:
The kid(s): mirror games between Charlie and the kid, the making-of and a child star:
The first section of the visit is dedicated to Chaplin’s childhood, the pivotal role that Hannah, his mother, played during his early years and the film’s synopsis.
Back to basics: tarmacked streets, games and magic lanterns:
These spaces transport you back to Charlie’s own childhood, retracing his journey to give you a better understanding of the Tramp, the Kid and the film itself.
Nikelodéon :
A movie theatre that invites visitors to sit back and let themselves be whisked away by the childlike spirit of a Tramp who has never made them laugh and smile so much.

Accounts from Chaplin’s children of their childhood memories as they share their insights and shed light on the father behind the star.
Considered by the British Film Institute as one of the 50 films to see by the age of 15, “The Kid” is an intergenerational film for all the family to enjoy, possibly more so than Chaplin’s other films.
To produce this film, Chaplin revisited his childhood and transformed it into a source of inspiration. A creation bursting with humanity, striking down the small-mindedness of the established order and demonstrating the ability to overcome tragedy. A magnificent display of survival and how suffering can be transformed into a lust for life and fulfilled dreams.
To celebrate the centenary of the movie The Kid, some child stars have accepted, exclusively, to give us a unique testimony about their experiences as young actors and what binds them to Jackie Coogan and Chaplin.

The exhibition is included in and can be accessed with a valid Chaplin’s World ticket. You can therefore visit The Studio, The Manoir, The Park and our new exhibition, "The Kid: The Exhibition”, during the museum’s opening hours.
- GUIDED TOUR “THE KID : THE EXHIBITION "
Complete the experience with our new, one hour and a half guided tour all about Chaplin and the film “The Kid”. Learn about the secrets behind Chaplin’s iconic film and discover many other stories and anecdotes throughout your visit.
The guided tour will take place in the "The Kid: The Exhibition” exhibition space and in The Studio.

"The Kid: The Exhibition" takes place at Chaplin’s World from 12 March to 29 August 2021.
